Jim Grover is the new dean of the Graduate Studies program.

Grover named dean of Graduate School

James Grover has been selected as the new dean of the Graduate School effective Monday, Oct. 28.

Dr. Grover joined the UTA faculty in 1993 and has served as assistant, associate, and full professor in the Biology Department, as well as associate dean and interim dean in the College of Science. He also served as interim dean in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs. Grover will continue in his role as the interim vice president for research until that position is filled through a national search.

He is project director for CIRTL-UTA, part of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), which promotes professional development for future faculty (doctoral students and postdocs) in STEM higher education.

UTA President Vistasp Karbhari spoke on a panel at the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce’s first State of Higher Education luncheon alongside executives of two other Tarrant County institutions, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Fort Worth Business Press reported.

Karbhari emphasized the importance of helping students complete their degree at their own pace, as well as the value of meaningful internships in Fort Worth’s business community.

Faith in prison

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram ran an editorial by Kent Ryan Kerley, UTA chair of criminology and criminal justice, regarding the value of faith in prison following the events at the sentencing of former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger.

Kerley is an expert in the role religion plays in the everyday lives of prisoners and said the actions of Judge Tammy Kemp are not “off,” but rather harken back to the beginnings of prisons in the U.S.
