Faculty, associates honored at spring meeting

The UTA Presidential Research Fellows were among the honorees at the Spring Faculty and Associates Meeting on Tuesday. The new award recognizes faculty that promote collaborative and cross-disciplinary research as a means of enhancing the goals of the UTA Strategic Plan. Recipients are, from left, Heng Huang, professor of computer science and engineering; Kathryn Daniel, associate professor of nursing; Shima Hamidi, assistant professor of planning and landscape architecture; Noelle Fields, assistant professor of social work; and Samir Iqbal, associate professor of electrical engineering. Positions open for new UTA women's networking group

Applications and nominations are needed for positions with the new UTA Women Faculty and Staff Network. Positions open include faculty and staff co-chairs, secretary, and treasurer/parliamentarian. Applications and nominations must be submitted by 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 2. Results of the election will be announced at noon Wednesday, May 10, in the Red River Room of the University Center. Work-life balance roundtable discussion Wednesday

The Division of Faculty Affairs and the Office of Human Resources host a free one-hour roundtable discussion on work-life balance, successful strategies for comfort and success, and tips from peers on how they managed their situations successfully. Wendy Casper, professor of management, will moderate the panel, which includes Melanie Sattler, associate professor of civil engineering; Taryn O. Allen, assistant professor of educational leadership; Ignacio Ruiz-Perez, associate professor of modern languages; and Gail Greene, human resources business partner. The workshop is noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in Room 254 of the Business Building. Register online for the free lunch.

SAC Summer Slimdown teams with Blazing Race

This year's Summer Slimdown, hosted by the Staff Advisory Council, begins with the Blazing Race, sponsored by the UTA Wellness Committee. The one-day Blazing Race competition is Wednesday, May 17, the beginning day of the three-and-a-half week Slimdown. There are two ways you can sign up your team:

Register for the Blazing Race and also mark the form for the Slimdown. The race deadline is Monday, May 8.

Sign up only the Slimdown by Thursday, May 11.

Metro Golf Tournament set for Fossil Creek course May 15
