NAACP president to speak at annual MLK banquet
|
Cornell Brooks, president and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, will address the theme “A Nation of Freedom and Justice” at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Advancing the Dream Awards Banquet, which begins at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, in the Bluebonnet Ballroom of the E. H. Hereford University Center, 300 W. First St.
Banquet tickets are $45 and may be purchased at utatickets.com. Complimentary valet parking is available.

Don't miss Maverick basketball action
|
Watch the Maverick men's basketball team play Troy at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, on ESPN3 television and KEXB 620 AM radio. Then tune in again at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, for the game against South Alabama. The team is 12-4 overall and 2-1 in the Sun Belt Conference.
The Lady Mavs face South Alabama at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, and Troy at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14. The Troy game will be broadcast on ESPN3. The team is 10-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The Souper Bowl of Caring kicks off with a canned food drive 6 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Maverick Activities Center. All donated items will benefit Mission Arlington's food pantry. Stay for the program 9:30-11 a.m. Meet former Dallas Cowboy Drew Pearson and watch high school students compete for the best can-struction design.

Papers wanted for spring conference on culture, society
|
The Department of Modern Languages and UTA Libraries have issued a call for papers for the Culture and Society: Bridging the Gap Conference set for Monday-Tuesday, April 10-11. The event brings together students, faculty, and professionals for engaging, multidisciplinary conversations. Submissions are due by Thursday, Feb. 9.

The Office of Facilities Management reminds employees that space heaters are generally prohibited on campus and using them requires written permission.
