UTA again tops list of best in Texas for veterans

For the second consecutive year, UTA is the No. 1 school in the state for military veterans and their families to earn a college education, according to the Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2017 ranking of national universities. UTA ranked No. 20 of the public and private institutions considered and was the only Texas school ranked in the top 20. LEARN MORE.


Veterans Day events recognize faculty, staff, students for their military service

UTA honors students, faculty, and staff for their military service on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11. The day begins at 7 a.m. with a presentation of colors by the ROTC Corps of Cadets on the Library mall. The flag retreat ceremony is at 5 p.m. Faculty and staff veterans will be touted at a recognition breakfast at 7:45 a.m. in the Palo Duro Lounge of the E.H. Hereford University Center. RSVP to attend. At 3 p.m., student veterans will be inducted into SALUTE, a National Honor Society for veterans. The event is in Room 204 of the CAPPA Building.


Homecoming Week filled with fun, games, reunions

UTA will put out a big welcome home mat through Sunday, Nov. 13, for Homecoming Week 2016. Start the week with Paint Your Ride with Maverick Pride 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today, Monday, Nov. 7, in the Arlington Hall turnaround. Sign up for the events, participate in fun activities, and attend the parade, pep rally, and men's basketball game on Saturday. See the schedule for details. Info sessions address changes in overtime exemption

Learn more about the Department of Labor's change in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) raising the salary threshold required to qualify for exemption from overtime from $23,660 to $47,476. The change is effective Thursday, Dec. 1.

The Office of Human Resources has completed a University-wide review of all staff positions that will be impacted by the change. Faculty, coaches, student employees, and other selected positions are not impacted by the change.

Information sessions are 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in the second floor lounge of the Maverick Activities Center and 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, in the Lone Star Auditorium of the MAC.

Start sorting items for electronics recycling Thursday

Recycle electronic devices from your department or home that are no longer needed 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, on the University Center mall by Woolf Hall. Items with a UTA sticker will not be accepted.


Faculty regalia orders due Friday

Faculty members who need commencement regalia have until Friday to place an order with the UTA Bookstore.


UT System Day festivities Friday

  Happy UT System Day  

Wear your Maverick attire to celebrate UT System Day 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the second floor atrium of the Maverick Activity Center. Use the hashtag #ALLUT when you post your photos to your favorite social media site. Departments can register online to have an information table. UT System Day is sponsored by the Office of Human Resources, the Staff Advisory Council, and the UT System Employee Advisory Council.

BlackBerry Duo Mobile app not supported

Duo, UTA's NetIDplus provider, no longer supports the BlackBerry Duo Mobile app. After Feb. 1, 2017, the app will be permanently removed from the BlackBerry World app store. Push notification and password generation will continue to function on BlackBerry devices. The Office of Information Technology recommends the use of alternative NetIDplus methods for authenticating, such as phone calls or text messaging options. Newer BlackBerry devices with an Android operating system and other mobile devices will not be impacted by this announcement.


Maverick Memories

  Geraldine Ferraro  

In September 1984, Geraldine Ferraro visited UTA while campaigning as the first female vice presidential candidate representing a major American political party. She ran with Walter Mondale on the Democratic Party ticket.
