Interdisciplinary PhD in kinesiology degree launchedThe College of Nursing and Health Innovation will begin offering a doctoral degree in kinesiology in response to soaring demand for health care scientists and faculty. The degree, which combines elements from kinesiology and nursing curriculums, will have three tracks: movement and rehabilitation sciences, applied physiology, and physical education. Read more. Maverick Stampede begins MondayThe Maverick Stampede begins the 2016-17 academic year Monday with the Move-in Event, the Parent and Family Center Cookout, and free Planetarium shows. Tuesday includes campus tours and a lunch for commuter students. Celebrate the start of the academic year with the MavsMeet Convocation at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at College Park Center. Ya'Ke Smith, assistant professor of film and video, will give the keynote address, followed by remarks by campus leaders and musical entertainment. Following the convocation, faculty and staff can mingle at the AfterParty on The Green at College Park. Parking affected by Move-In DayParking spots for Monday's Move-in Day will affect part of parking lot F10, the Health Services Center lot, and College Park Central and South parking garages. Volunteers will help students unload vehicles all day, starting at 8:30 a.m. Alternative parking sites include the Maverick Parking Garage—at no extra cost—and S47, south of the Life Science Building and Pickard Hall. See the Move-in Day parking map. Career Development Center opens today in University CenterThe Career Development Center has a new home in Suite 180S of the E.H. Hereford University Center. The 6,000-square-foot space includes interview rooms, a smart classroom, and dressing rooms where students can prepare for interviews. Register your vehicle for new parking permitsGeneral parking permits and reserved space permit renewals are available now for faculty and staff. Volunteer to welcome, help students at annual Move-in EventVolunteer for the Residence Hall Move-in Event to help students get situated in their new on-campus homes. The Move-in Event, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, is a campus-wide initiative to assist more than 2,100 residence hall students who will be living on campus this fall.
