Dear UTA campus community, After an in-depth national search, I am proud to share that Marie E. Schultz will lead The University of Texas at Arlington in securing philanthropic resources as our new vice president for development and alumni relations. She begins her new role at UTA on Nov. 14. Marie has spent the entirety of her 23-year career in the development office at the University of California, Riverside, where she most recently helped lead and close a successful $300 million comprehensive fundraising campaign that not only finished ahead of schedule but exceeded its goal by $12 million. She also led the university to its two highest fundraising years, increasing private philanthropic support to more than $42 million in 2021-22. Marie’s backstory is engaging: Her career began on her very first day as an undergraduate at UC Riverside, when she took a job as a student worker in the development office. She stayed for the next two decades, rising through the department ranks and most recently serving as both executive vice president of the University of California, Riverside Foundation, and associate vice chancellor for development. Our future success as a University depends in part on the support of our alumni and the vitality of our continuing and future external relationships. Marie will lead UTA’s efforts to foster positive engagement opportunities with our alumni, friends and supporters to create a more vibrant and impactful Maverick community. I have deep appreciation for our 14-member search committee, which was chaired by Salma Adem, vice president for planning and chief of staff, and Jeff Jeter, vice president for government relations. Their commitment to the future of this University ensured we would find a veteran development professional who will lead us to greater heights. Since May, we also have hired a new provost and senior vice president for academic affairs; athletics director; vice president for research and innovation; vice president for business and finance; and vice president for marketing, messaging and engagement. I expect these leadership changes will propel us to becoming one of the nation’s most inclusive and impactful research universities. I am eager for UTA to benefit from this new leadership and their fresh ideas as they join this incredible institution. Thank you to every member of the Maverick community who participated in our search processes. Your ideas and perspectives helped shape our leadership team and our future. |
