Dear Mavericks,
Welcome to a new semester and new academic year at The University of Texas at Arlington! Whether you’re new to the Maverick family or a longtime member, I’m grateful you’re here.
With a long career in higher education, I’m no stranger to the bustle and excitement that comes with starting a new semester—but this time feels special. In fact, it’s a monumental one for me: my first full semester as president of UTA, working alongside the immensely talented students, faculty, and staff who call our campus home. I’m honored to join you all for what I am confident will be a great year in Maverick Country.
Embracing the Maverick experience
Over the past several months, I’ve been fortunate to meet so many of you, and I look forward to meeting many more in the semester ahead. Getting to know my fellow Mavericks and hearing what makes you excited about UTA and your ideas for our future has me dreaming bigger than ever. The Maverick spirit is infectious and transformational. I encourage each of you to set your intention to get to know more of your fellow Mavericks this semester and fully embrace the countless engagement and learning opportunities UTA has to offer.
If you’re not already planning to, I hope you’ll join us at College Park Center 6 p.m. today, Aug. 22, for MavsMeet Convocation. Getting involved in this event and all others held as part of Maverick Stampede is a great way to meet your fellow Mavericks, get to know UTA, and build excitement for the semester ahead.
No matter your interests or aspirations, UTA has a way for you to get involved and set yourself up for the future. Explore our student organizations and opportunities available through the Follett Student Leadership Center. The Career Development Center is open to help you explore career options and internships, as well as assist you in building your resume and interview skills. The Division of Student Success is here to connect you to resources proven to help you succeed. The Division of Student Affairs can help you engage with the traditions, events, and programs that play a valuable role in the Maverick experience.
Staying safe, healthy for a strong semester
A successful semester is predicated on the health and safety of our community. Please continue to adhere to the best practices and utilize the resources that help protect our community against COVID-19 and monkeypox. If you test positive for COVID-19, please submit the Personal Diagnosis Form and follow UTA's self-isolation protocols.
There is a lot of “new” this year as we welcome new ideas and chart the path forward to our bright future, but UTA’s rich tradition of excellence in education, research, and public service remains steadfast. Our beloved University offers so many resources to help each of us maximize our potential academically, professionally, and socially. I can’t wait to hear about your experiences as you explore them. Email me, follow me on Twitter, or visit the Office of the President website for more ways to connect.
I’m so glad to be able to experience this semester with each of you. There’s so much we can accomplish together. Mav Up!
