Dear Maverick Community,
Following an extensive and competitive national search process, I’m proud to report that the University has selected Jon Fagg to serve as UTA’s Director of Athletics. Beginning Aug. 1, Jon will provide strategic leadership for our intercollegiate athletics department and collaborate across campus and the community to promote the academic and athletic achievements of our student-athletes.
Jon joins us from the University of Arkansas, where he currently serves as Deputy Athletics Director. I am confident his experience will prove to be an asset as we begin our first year in the Western Athletic Conference and work to advance the success of our 15 NCAA Division I athletic programs. Through the unique unifying power of sports, a thriving athletics program will play a valuable role in our strategic focus area of Student Success, and I’m glad to bring Jon’s perspective to the table as we continue to define this focus and identify near- and longer-term elements to support it.
As we prepare to welcome Jon aboard, we owe many thanks to our 12-member search committee and its chairman, Shelby Boseman, chief legal officer, for their efforts leading a search that yielded a diverse pool of candidates and produced a proven leader to join the Maverick family.
Additionally, please join me in expressing appreciation and offering best wishes to Jim Baker, who is retiring this year after 10 distinguished years at the helm of our athletics enterprise. Under Jim’s leadership, UTA won 24 conference championships and made 13 NCAA tournament appearances, all while prioritizing the academic success of our student-athletes. UTA has benefited greatly from Jim’s dedication.
I am so excited by the progress we’ve made in filling our senior leadership team and look forward to sharing more updates on our four remaining executive searches.
Mav Up!
