Today we’re announcing the following safety step of temporarily reducing classroom density to bolster physical distancing efforts for the first two weeks of the fall 2021 semester (Aug. 25 to Sept. 8). The goal is to have UTA campus classrooms at approximately 50% capacity or less to create a safer environment for teaching and learning. We’ll reassess this plan and announce any updates before Sept. 8.
To accomplish reduced classroom density, faculty will rotate in-person student attendance in courses with on-campus teaching elements. For example:
- For a course that meets on campus twice each week (Tuesdays and Thursdays), half the class would attend on Tuesdays and the other half on Thursdays.
- For a course that meets on campus three days per week, one-third of students would attend each class.
- In classes that meet once per week, faculty can rotate student attendance by week or split class time each week and rotate attendance accordingly.
Your instructors will communicate their plan for reducing classroom density to you no later than Aug. 23. If you have any questions, contact academicaffairs@uta.edu.
Please note that faculty will record or livestream all lectures and other classroom activities for students not attending that day. Plans under this temporary practice may involve remote learning elements. If you need access to technology or additional support to be successful during this period, please visit UTA Remote for information regarding devices for rent, computer labs and internet connectivity. You also can check out this map of indoor and outdoor power stations so you always know where to charge your devices while on campus.
While you ready yourself for a successful semester, we ask that you continue to uphold the best practices for maintaining the health and safety of your fellow Mavericks. This includes wearing a mask when indoors, performing a daily health screening and getting vaccinated. If you haven’t received the COVID‑19 vaccine yet, we hope you will consider doing so. We’ve established on-campus vaccination clinics to provide you convenient access to the best defense against the COVID-19 virus.
We’ll continue to provide updates and communicate important changes via email, TrailBlazer and our COVID‑19 website. Thanks for your continued flexibility and understanding as we work to keep you and your fellow Mavericks safe. Our goal is to continue moving forward toward a resumption of on-campus classes and activities while securing the health and safety of our community.
