Campus Closure Guidelines
The UTA workforce has undergone a significant change over the past year, with many employees now working remotely either on a part-time or full-time basis. This change has an impact on how we have historically addressed campus closure with our workforce due to inclement weather or other reasons. In anticipation of the upcoming weather forecast and to ensure safety for our faculty, staff, and students, as well as to maintain essential University-wide operations and business continuity, below are some guidelines to follow in the event the campus is closed due to inclement weather:
Staff
- Employees who are scheduled to work on campus the day(s) the campus is closed will not report to campus and will work remotely, except for those employees who are considered essential employees. Essential employees are those employees who are expected to come to campus to maintain essential campus operations; this includes, but is not necessarily limited to, colleagues in our Police Department, Office of Facilities Management, EH&S, Dining Services, etc. Non-essential employees who are unable to work remotely and are not on campus should record other absence paid on their timesheets.
- Employees who are scheduled to work remotely on the day(s) the campus is closed will continue with their regular remote work schedule. Supervisors may provide a flexible schedule for that day to assist with any child care or other needs. Employees who are unable to work their regular remote schedule must use vacation or sick leave as applicable.
Faculty
- For faculty teaching a class on campus, the class will be canceled unless the faculty member can successfully transition and teach the course online.
- For faculty teaching a class online, the class will not be canceled, but will take place in accordance with the class schedule. If the faculty member cannot teach the course online (some faculty come to the campus to teach an online course), they can elect to cancel the class due to campus closing and inclement weather.
Students
- For face-to-face or on-campus classes, the class will be canceled and rescheduled unless the faculty member notifies students the class will be taught online.
- For online classes, the class will not be canceled, but will take place in accordance with the class schedule unless the faculty member sends out notification of cancellation.
The University Center, University Commons, and Central Library will be open for operations. In some cases, the hours of operation will be reduced.
Additional information will be promulgated through the Emergency Management notification systems, www.uta.edu, UTA Facebook and Twitter, and Mavwire and TrailBlazer University emails.
