First, I want to thank you for your diligent efforts in continuing to serve our UTA community during this difficult time. Many of you have been involved in preparing to implement online instruction and others have been responding to needs of our students and in ensuring that essential campus operations continue in an efficient manner. My thanks and deep gratitude to each of you.

COVID-19 presents many unprecedented circumstances. With students on campus we are unable to “shut down” the campus. However, I am also sensitive to the personal considerations many of you have to weigh as we experience disruptions to our daily lives outside of the work environment. Our modified operating procedures are focused on implementing social distancing by permitting and encouraging employees to telecommute, while continuing to provide essential academic and support services to our students.

Given the circumstances I am requesting all vice-presidents and deans to emphasize telecommuting to the maximum extent possible so as to minimize the need to be on campus. However, I recognize that in some circumstances personnel will be needed across campus to provide full continuity of operations. Accordingly, I have asked vice presidents and deans earlier to identify before Monday, March 16th those faculty and staff who can fulfill their duties by telecommuting, and those who are physically required to be on campus in order to fulfill their assigned work, and to directly contact them with instructions. You should be hearing from your unit head shortly if you have not heard already.

I want to assure all that the University will apply all available authorizations to ensure employees continue to receive their compensation and eligibility for benefits, through this challenging time.

As we deal with this situation, UTA remains committed to doing everything we are authorized in order to support our students, faculty and staff.

Estimados profesores y personal,

Primero, quiero agradecerles por sus esfuerzos diligentes para continuar sirviendo a nuestra comunidad de UTA durante este momento difícil. Muchos de ustedes han estado involucrados en la preparación para implementar instrucción en línea y otros han respondido a las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes y en garantizar que las operaciones esenciales del campus continúen de manera eficiente. Mi agradecimiento y profunda gratitud a cada uno de ustedes.

COVID-19 presenta muchas circunstancias sin precedentes. Como tenemos estudiantes en el campus no podemos “cerrar” las instalaciones. Sin embargo, también tengo en cuenta las consideraciones personales que muchos de ustedes tienen que calcular a medida que experimentamos interrupciones en nuestra vida diaria fuera del entorno de trabajo. Nuestros procedimientos operativos modificados se centran en implementar el distanciamiento social al permitir y alentar a los empleados a teletrabajar, mientras continuamos brindando servicios académicos y de apoyo esenciales a nuestros estudiantes.
