The UTA Ring
Throughout its history, The University of Texas at Arlington has stood for academic rigor and excellence for its individualistic students. From the original 75 who attended Arlington College in 1895, to over 40,000 students of today, UTA’s student body has always been a reflection of the state of Texas and our nation: unique, industrious, diverse, and dedicated.
The UTA Ring serves as a symbol of pride and accomplishment. It forms a common bond between past and future graduates. The ring is reserved exclusively for those who have earned the right to wear it. This lasting symbol of UTA is limited to juniors, seniors, graduate students, and alumni.
The Official UTA Ring Ceremony
The Official UTA Maverick Ring Ceremony is held at the end of each fall and spring semester This event is a partnership between our official ring partner, Jostens, and the Office of Alumni Relations. After you purchase your ring, you will receive an invitation with details for that semester’s ceremony.
The Official Maverick Ring Ceremony gives you the opportunity to receive your Maverick Ring in the presence of your friends, family, and university dignitaries. This prestigious occasion, held in the University Center, marks a milestone in your academic career.
Ceremony participants receive their ring in an exclusive, beautiful keepsake box. You will cross the stage to receive your ring and take a photo with a university representative. You will learn more about the symbolism behind the ring with your classmates as you celebrate your achievements.
Symbolism
Your class ring represents not only the history of our University but also the individualism of its students. All the rings share common elements that tie us together as students and alumni.
The inside panel is where you may have chosen your own distinctive mark. Your name or initials may be engraved there, or a student organization or Greek letters representing your fraternity or sorority affiliation. Whatever you chose, it makes the ring uniquely yours.
Students wear the ring with the school name facing them. Upon the granting of degrees at Commencement, graduates turn the ring around, with the name facing outward. This symbolizes that you are now ready to face the world.
