Fall weather finally arrives this week and so does law school application season! For those of you applying this cycle, we’ve got some great events coming up for you this month. AT&T-Haynes & Boone Fall Kick-Off Luncheon Event

Monday, October 23, 2023 (Date changed from Nov. 1st)

AT&T Headquarters Dallas

9:30AM – 2:30PM

Buses pickup at 8:30 and return by 3pm

 

The AT&T-Haynes & Boone Mentorship Program has returned for another year! Students will be treated with the opportunity to go to Dallas for the day to have one-on-one conversations with a mentoring attorney from AT&T and Haynes & Boone.  Emails to registered students will go out on Wednesday, Oct. 4th and Friday, Oct. 13th.

 

Program Features

-        One-on-one mentorship experience with an attorney

-        Opportunity to learn some best practices for getting hired in the legal profession

-        Opportunity to discuss some key resources for first gen students

-        Focused guidance on building your personal brand

-        Free transportation and Free lunch (of course!)

  • EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITY FOR LLS MINORS

INTRODUCING THE EMTLAW FUTURE LAWYERS INTERN PROGRAM

Introducing the newly launched Future Lawyers Internship Program sponsored by the Law Office of Ebony M. Turner, designed to allow students an immersive experience in law practice for course credit during the Spring 2024 semester. Students selected to participate in this program will be placed at various law firms in the DFW area for course credit through the HIST 4391 Legal Service Learning Internship Course in Spring 2024. Interns will also receive pay through this experience if invited to continue beyond the spring semester into the summer. 

Non-LLS minor students are welcomed to apply.  Priority will be given to Law and Legal Studies Minors needing experiential learning credit but students do not need to be LLS minors to apply.

On Sept. 22nd, the UTA Pre-Law Center hosted its annual Pre-Law Day Workshops and Law School Fair event.  For the final workshop, AccessLex hosted a workshop on How to Pay for Law School.  The presentation highlights important tips for planning out the cost of legal education, strategies for savings, tools for researching scholarships and grants as well as tips for financial health while in undergrad and law school. Students new to UTA or new the pursuit of a legal career will find benefit in socializing with other students pursuing the same goals!  This year, the officers are working to bring you a virtual semester of speakers, socials, community service events and the PLS LSAT Prep Study Group!

Meetings will be bi-weekly on Mondays at noon in the Pre-Law Center.

October campus meeting will be Oct. 9th and Oct. 23rd meeting will be replaced by the AT&T Mentorship Luncheon. All PLS members are encouraged to register and attend.

Women In Law

Women in Law is meeting and looking for new members!  This organization is open to all majors and seeks to provide resources to advance women’s interest in the legal world. Students can look forward to bi-monthly meetings, socials, the WIL Speaker Series and each semester the WIL Spring Retreat!  The 2023 April Spring Retreat at the Sheraton Arlington is in the books and was amazing!

Meetings will be held bi-weekly on Wednesdays at noon in the Pre-Law Center.

October meetings will be October 4th and 18th.

For over fifty years, the National Black Law Students Association has worked to develop culturally responsible Black and minority law students that excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. NBLSA members are activists, thought leaders, and strategic thinkers. NBLSA alumni are partners, general counsel, judges, non-profit executives, and business operatives.

Pre-Law NBLSA meetings will be held bi-weekly in the Pre-Law Center on Thursdays at 3:30pm.
