Holly, 32, is entering his senior year at the University of Texas at Arlington as a Broadcast Communications major, minoring in both Theater Arts and Creative Writing. This is the second scholarship awarded to Holly for the ’24-’25 school year, being awarded the Alice G. Kelly Endowed Scholarship. He is the incoming secretary of Maverick Media, the student media club on campus, and ’22-’23 National Broadcasting Society Rookie Member of the Year.

Holly is the first Maverick awarded the Bonner McLane Scholarship, and the first recipient of a TBEF Scholarship since ’21-’22 (Brenda Saldana). “I am honored knowing my hard work was acknowledged.” Holly said. “These winnings help me breathe easier knowing I will financially provide for my daughter and my education during my senior year.”

During his time at UTA, Jason has interviewed Maverick Athletic Legends such as Super Bowl Champion Bruce Collie, and Olympian Jared Connaughton. “My mother often reminds me that no person is too big.” Holly said. “My goal after graduation is to find a platform where I can inform and entertain with my style.”

The Bonner McLane scholarship, worth $4500, is presented to a student in Texas that emphasizes Radio or TV broadcasting communications. The award is named in memoriam of Bonner McLane. McLane is remembered for such accomplishments like establishing the first full-service ad agency in Austin, 1985 Pioneer Broadcaster of the Year award, and through his other works established the Texas Association of Broadcasters to a position of high regard in the State of Texas.

Holly will receive his scholarship at the Texas Associations of Broadcasters Convention August 8 in Round Rock, Texas.
