Innovation Award Winner
Evelyn Torres-Gomez, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Solaris Technologies Services, LLC, and a member of the UT Arlington College of Engineering Board of Advisors, was the recipient of the Radio Club of America’s 2024 Wireless Innovation Award.
Established in 2022, the award recognizes individuals who create a new concept or product to be used in the wireless industry.
Torres-Gomez spearheaded her company’s development of Mobile Internet Tower Technology, or MITT, a mobile Wi-Fi tower that uses low earth orbit satellites and cellular-based redundancy, offering high-speed internet access from any location that can be used to bridge connectivity gaps during disaster relief, for rural connectivity and at outdoor events.
“Congratulations to Evelyn on earning the Wireless Innovation Award and being honored as a Fellow of the Radio Club of America! The vision and creativity which led to Solaris’s MITT product is a valuable resource to the College of Engineering. I am grateful for her sustained advice and support and look forward to her continued contributions to the Board of Advisors going forward,” said Peter Crouch, dean of the College of Engineering.
Solaris is an award-winning global telecommunications manufacturing company that provides innovative, high-capacity mobile tower solutions – also known as Cellular-on-Wheels – throughout the Americas.
“Wireless innovation requires you to be a risk-taker and be ready to embrace failure,” Torres-Gomez said. “I wish I could say that it has been a clear and smooth path to success, but it has not. My journey has been hard, scary and full of ups and downs. However, if you ask me about being an innovator, I have so much passion and love for what I do that I don’t see any other technology I would want to be in.”
“My journey started as a favor to a friend; who would have guessed that it would open the doors and allowed me to become a pioneer in this wonderful world of wireless technology and innovation? Innovation is happening every day. I ask you this: What are you doing to contribute to its growth?”
Torres-Gomez started her career as a telecommunications industry executive with Nokia Networks. At Nokia she served as an Area Account Manager for Central America and led the customer account team to identify and win Nokia Networks. She led the first infrastructure deal in Central America and served as Lead Customer Manager for North America and Latin America. She received awards for decreasing product development cost by 25% while providing customer solutions ahead of schedule. Evelyn also worked as a product manager for VHA, Inc./Novation, a medical health care provider, where she was responsible for product launches, contract negotiation, and business development.
She owns patents in tower design and cabling and on behalf of Solaris, she has received numerous awards for her innovation and community involvement, including her service on the College’s Board of Advisors. She is also heavily involved in STEM work both locally and at a collegiate level.
