Emergency Notification

UTA EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) has multiple emergency communication methods.

MAV-Alert: keeps the University community informed in the event of a campus emergency by sending early warning text messages to phones, email accounts, and other registered communications devices. Students, faculty, and staff should update their phone numbers through MyMav at uta.edu/mymav. UTA guests, visitors and others who plan to be on campus may sign up to receive MavAlerts on the guest registration page.

Outdoor Warning Sirens: This campus-wide loudspeaker system is activated by the Office of Emergency Management in the event of life-threatening emergency. The University's outdoor warning system consists of a combination of chimes and live or prerecorded announcements. 

External Media Advisories: To quickly spread essential information, campus closings and emergency notifications are provided to external media including television, radio stations, and online new sites.

Guest Registration for Mav Alerts

UTA guests, visitors and others who plan to be on campus may sign up to receive MavAlerts on the guest registration page.

MAV ALERT INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS

1. Click on students , click on my MAV icon, and click on student login. Log in with your regular net ID and password.

 2. Next, click on the "Personal Information" tile.

3. Click the "Contact Details" section to view your contact information.

4. There are two options: 

  • Updating mobile phone number | Click on the existing phone number that you would like to update. 

  • Adding a new mobile phone number | Click on "Add Phone" if there is not a phone number listed or the "+" under the phone section to add a new phone number. 

Note: "Mobile" phone numbers already listed on record will automatically be enabled to receive Mav Alert emergency text message notifications.

5. Complete the form and indicate the phone number is mobile device by using the drop-down arrow by Type to automatically enroll in the Mav Alert Emergency Notification System. 

Note: You can also check the "ENABLE TEXT" box to receive Mav Alert emergency text message notifications. 

6. Click "SAVE" to save your information. 

Note: To opt out of Mav Alert notifications, follow steps 1 and 2. Then, click on Mav Alert Opt Out which is on the left-hand side. Set the switch to "Yes". 

MAV ALERT INSTRUCTIONS FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

  1. Click on https://uta.edu/mymav and click on faculty/staff login. Log in with your regular network ID and password. 
  2. Click on "Sign up for MavAlerts" in the far right column.

  1. Click on the yellow “Add a phone number” button.
  2. Pull the drop-down menu under Phone Type to label the number and enter in the number. Label it "Mobile" to enable MavAlert emergency notifications via text message.
  3. Click "Save" to save your mobile phone and enable it for text messaging.

Please note: Faculty and staff may opt out of receiving MavAlert emergency text messages by logging into MyMav at https://uta.edu/mymav and following the "MavAlert Opt-Out" link in the right column of the page. MavAlert emergency notifications are sent to all uta.edu email addresses.
