About

The Minor in Dance provides an expansive program for students looking to broaden their knowledge and experience of dance as an art form, with a particular focus on exploring subject matter through movement. Dance Performance Opportunities

The department presents two formal dance concerts each year, participates in on and off campus events, and has performed for film and in alternative sites. Students have performed on campus at the UTA Planetarium, UTA Art Gallery, The President’s Dinner, UTA’s Homecoming Parade, and filmed in campus locations such as UTA’s Micro Houses, the Architecture Courtyard, and various natural landscapes. Off-campus performances include American College Dance Association, Fort Worth Fringe Festival, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Sundance Square Plaza Stage, The Performance at Dance Co-op & Collin College.

All UTA students, regardless of their declared major or minor, can audition for Dance. Dance students have additional opportunities each semester to audition for theatrical productions ranging from classic and modern musicals, plays, and other interdisciplinary projects such as dance for camera and dance in alternative venues. View the casting policy for additional details.

Program Audition

An audition for the dance minor is not required. However, students will be placed in appropriate dance technique courses based on their skill level through a video or in-person placement audition. Students interested in placing out of a level 1 technique course should contact the Dance Area Head. Students declaring the dance minor must be accepted into the university and be in good academic standing. The minor is intended to be completed in four semesters.
